On the 1st of February 2020, the Lagos State Government placed a ban motorcycles and tricycles locally know as Okada and Keke napep from commercial roads. At the time of the announcement, Lagosians had a hard time commuting through Lagos and commercial buses took advantage of this to inflate their fare to absurd amounts putting naturally on edge Lagosians to the edge.
Some days after the Okada ban, the Lagos state Marathon took place and affected youths from the ban stormed the event to protest but their protest fell on deaf ears.
We are a week and few days into the implementation of this law and Lagosians, as usual, have found a way of coping with whatever Lagos has thrown at them (when life throws you lemons you make lemonade right?) which resulted to mass trekking everywhere and the start of several trends ranging from ‘otrek’ to ‘ohorse’, while the Twitter users have had fun with the situation with different trends.
People are walking more which is good but with long distances, walking with work shoes is not the best bet as they would hurt the feet and make trekking harder. Below is a list of sneakers that can help prepare people for this trekking phase and make it ‘less stressful’
- Asics Gel Contend
- Asics Gel Tech Walker Neo 4
- Ryka Sky
- Saucony ProGrid Integrity ST2
